History

The Fantastic Four were created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. The team first appeared in Fantastic Four #1 (November 1961). In this issue, the four astronauts are exposed to cosmic rays during a space mission. The cosmic rays give them superpowers. Mr. Fantastic gains the ability to stretch his body, Invisible Woman gains the ability to become invisible and generate force fields, Human Torch gains the ability to fly and generate fire, and Thing gains a rocky exterior and superhuman strength.
